Dar es Salaam , 06 September 2024 , as the local government elections approaches, Tanzanian youths have been urged to actively participate by contesting for leadership roles and voting. Speaking at the ‘‘Youth na Siasa’’ learning session organized by Imara Leadership Initiative the Secretary General of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi Youth wing (UVCCM) Ms.Jokate Urban Mwegelo said youth representation in the previous elections was less than 35% a figure that must improve.
‘‘With Half of the #Tanzania’s populations being youth its critical for young people to aim for atleast 50% representation among candidates in the upcoming elections. We as youth should not only vote but also rub for office and take part in decision making- When youth actively participate in local governance , they not only contribute to more dynamic and inclusive decision-making but also cultivate a sense of responsibility and ownership of their community’s future’’. Ms.Mwegelo
The event, held in Dar es Salaam , was attended by Jokate Urban Mwegelo who serves a member of the WYDE Civic Engagement Network of Decision Makers and the Secretary General of Umoja wa Vijana wa CCM – Youth Wing in The United Republic of Tanzania alongside other distinguished youth leaders from political parties wings , civil society , UN agencies and and members of the media.
