Strengthening Gender Equality in Electoral Processes: Civil Society Collaboration in Tanzania

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Imara Leadership Initiative team took part in a stakeholders consultation workshop for Civil Society members on the Gender Analysis of the Elections Code of Conduct in Tanzania, organized by WiLDAF (Women in Law and Development in Africa) with the support of UN Women Tanzania, stakeholders gathered to advance gender-responsive approaches to democratic governance and electoral processes in the country.

The workshop provided a platform for diverse Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to collectively assess the current Elections Code of Conduct through a gender lens, ensuring that electoral frameworks and practices promote equality, inclusivity, and the meaningful participation of women in political spaces.

It is evident that the collaboration of CSOs is vital in advancing the Gender Analysis of the Elections Code of Conduct. By working together, CSOs amplify diverse voices, share expertise, and ensure that no perspective is left behind in shaping a fair and inclusive electoral framework, this joint effort underscores the critical role of civil society in fostering accountability, transparency, and equity in electoral systems. Through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and advocacy, CSOs continue to contribute significantly to the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all citizens in Tanzania’s democratic journey.

The workshop marks a key step towards building a more inclusive electoral process — one that recognizes and values the contributions of women and men equally in decision-making and governance.
