Partnership with Kofi Annan Foundation to Champion Women and Youth in Democracy in Africa

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania , Imara Leadership Initiative  (ILI) Tanzania team  comprising of our International Consultant Mr. Joshua Kweikuma Quaye and Ms.Petrider Paul the Executive Director of ILI joined forces with the Kofi Annan Foundation to host the Women and Youth in Democracy (WYDE) Civic Engagement Initiative, a landmark gathering that united participants from more than 20 nationalities in Dar es Salaam.

The event provided an in-person platform for vibrant cross-learning and exchange of experiences, placing women and youth at the center of conversations on democracy, governance, and civic participation. Through dynamic workshops, dialogues, and collaborative sessions, participants explored how inclusive leadership and innovative approaches can strengthen democratic institutions and promote active citizenship.

The  Women and Youth in Democracy (WYDE) Civic Engagement Initiative reflects a shared commitment by the Imara Leadership Initiative and the Kofi Annan Foundation to foster resilient democracies by empowering young leaders and amplifying women’s voices in decision-making processes. By convening diverse perspectives from across Africa and beyond, the program highlighted the importance of cross-cultural learning in addressing common challenges and shaping sustainable solutions.

As participants return to their home countries, the insights and networks built in Dar es Salaam are expected to inspire innovative civic engagement initiatives, further strengthening the global movement for democracy and inclusion.
