Launch of the Tanzania National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (T-NAP 2025- 2029)

Dar es Salaam , Tanzania , Imara Leadership Initiative Co-Managing Director, Ms. Petrider Paul, who is also a member of the African Union Network of African Women in Conflict Prevention and Mediation (FemWise-Africa) which was officially established through a decision of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government (AU Summit) on 4 July 2017 (Assembly/AU/Draft/Dec.21 (XXIX)), as a subsidiary mechanism of the Panel of the Wise., took part in the Official Launch of Tanzania’s First National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security (T-NAP 2025–2029)

The landmark event took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania at the National Defence College in Dar es Salaam, was organized by the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, with the valuable support of the Embassy of Ireland and UN Women Tanzania, the launch marks a historic milestone for Tanzania in advancing the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda, emphasizing the country’s commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable peace through the active participation and leadership of women across all sectors of society.

This high-level ceremony convened distinguished representatives from government ministries, peace and security institutions, development partners, UN agencies, civil society organizations, and youth-led initiatives. Together, participants reaffirmed their shared dedication to:

  • Showcasing national ownership of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda.
  • Reinforcing partnerships for inclusive and lasting peace in Tanzania and beyond
  • Strengthening multi-stakeholder commitments towards gender equality and peacebuilding.

Representing the voice of young women leaders and peace advocates, Ms. Petrider Paul underscored the importance of meaningful youth engagement in the implementation of the T-NAP. She highlighted that sustainable peace can only be achieved when women and young people are actively included in decision-making, peace processes, and leadership roles.

“The Tanzania National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security 2025–2029 is not just a policy framework it is a call to action. It is about ensuring that every woman and girl in Tanzania has the opportunity to participate, lead, and contribute to building the peaceful nation we all envision,” Ms. Paul stated.

As Tanzania embarks on this new chapter, the Imara Leadership Initiative remains steadfast in its mission to empower young women leaders, promote peacebuilding initiatives, and strengthen inclusive governance across communities.
