Cairo, Egypt The African Union Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (AU PCRD) Centre successfully convened a three-day Capacity Building and Training Program on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) and Peacebuilding, under the theme “Empowering Youth in PCRD and Peacebuilding in Africa.” The event brought together youth leaders, peace practitioners, policymakers, and development partners to strengthen youth engagement in advancing peace, stability, and reconstruction across the continent, Ms.Petrider Paul who is the Co-Managing Director of Imara Leadership Initiative and also serves as an African Union FemWise Africa member took part in this 1st cohort training.
Setting the Stage for Inclusive Peacebuilding
The training opened with remarks from the AU PCRD Executive Secretary and a representative of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscoring the strategic role of youth in achieving Africa’s peace and development aspirations. The sessions were designed to align with the AU PCRD’s mission to operationalize the Revised PCRD Policy Framework and its Nine Priority Pillars ranging from political governance to environmental sustainability.
Participants were introduced to the African Union Constitutive Act, the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), and the evolving frameworks that guide the AU’s approach to post-conflict recovery and peacebuilding.
Deepening Understanding: From Policy to Practice
Over the course of the program, experts and facilitators from the AU, UNDP, and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) led sessions that explored critical topics in peace and security.

Harnessing Technology and Innovation
A highlight of the training was the exploration of digital peacebuilding, where participants examined the growing role of technology in promoting dialogue, monitoring conflict dynamics, and mobilizing youth-led advocacy for peace and inclusion.
Building Resilience and a Shared Future
The final day focused on youth resilience and implementation strategies, culminating in group presentations, recommendations, and a certification ceremony. Facilitators emphasized the need for continuous collaboration among African youth to foster sustainable peace and inclusive reconstruction.

In closing, the AU PCRD Executive Secretary reaffirmed the AU’s commitment to equipping young Africans with the skills, knowledge, and networks to be active agents of peacebuilding and post-conflict transformation across the continent.
