100 Young Health Leaders from Africa and the diaspora selected to join the 1st Cohort of Malaria Young Leaders Africa Accelerator Programme 2025

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Imara Leadership Initiative (ILI) has announced the selection of 100 outstanding young health leaders from across Africa and the diaspora to join the inaugural cohort of the Malaria Young Leaders Africa Accelerator Programme (MYLAA) 2025.

The groundbreaking initiative is designed to equip the next generation of health innovators, researchers, and advocates with the skills, networks, and resources needed to accelerate progress towards malaria elimination on the continent. Participants were selected through a competitive process for their proven commitment to public health, leadership in their communities, and innovative approaches to tackling one of Africa’s deadliest diseases.

Speaking at the announcement, Ms.Petrider Paul , Executive Director of  Imara Leadership Initiative, emphasized the urgency of investing in young leadership she stated “Malaria remains a persistent threat, claiming hundreds of thousands of African lives each year, this programme is not just about building knowledge, but about empowering the brightest young minds to lead with courage, creativity, and collaboration in ending malaria once and for all.”

The 2025 accelerator programme will provide the cohort with intensive leadership development, mentorship from global health experts, funding opportunities for community projects, and platforms to influence policy and advocacy at national and continental levels.

Participants hail from diverse backgrounds, including medicine, public health, biotechnology, social entrepreneurship, and community activism. A significant number also represent the African diaspora, bringing fresh perspectives and global connections to strengthen Africa’s fight against malaria.


Despite decades of progress, malaria continues to cause nearly half a million deaths annually in Africa. Young people who make up the majority of the continent’s population—are seen as vital to driving the innovations, campaigns, and policy reforms needed to eliminate malaria by 2030.


The cohort will convene for the first time in November 2025 virtually and undertake the programme for three months until 2026, with regional workshops and virtual learning sessions.The Malaria Young Leaders Africa Accelerator Programme is set to become a flagship platform for cultivating bold, cross-generational leadership in global health.
